Kasbah & DWG Partner Up!

As of June 14th our Kasbah location will be officially teaching Bachata lessons every week. This location will play Bachata, Merengue, & Latin/Brazilian House music and will have a different flavor! If you want salsa/cha-cha go to The Belvedere or The Promenade. If you want Bachata or a more casual atmosphere w/open dancing for couples or singles go to The Kasbah! After the Bachata Meet-up Group came to Kasbah I felt a great need to provide Bachata dancers a venue to dance & learn in Baltimore. You now have more options than before! Be on the look out for our September Floor Fundraiser to raise $ to replace the Kasbah floor with a better surface! DWG & Kasbah will work together to make your dance experience more comfortable in the future! Go Bachata! Go Salsa! Go Kasbah! Whoo hoo!

Congratulations to Robin who is the student of the month. She hasn’t been dancing too long, but she has fallen in love with salsa and lets nothing get in the way of her Tuesday evening salsa lessons! Volunteers Needed: Hispanic Youth Symposium

Grace is looking for volunteers to help her with the Maryland Hispanic Youth Symposium. Teens from all over Maryland come to compete for college grants at this event. Grace is the Talent Show Chair this year and needs a sound technician, volunteers for backstage handlers, and a small decoration committee to help her decorate the star studded stage. Judges will be needed on July 10th from 7:15 - 10 pm. Judges should have experience in teaching/mentoring or have a leadership role in the community. A small decoration committee volunteers would be needed as well and could work on the decorations as a team in the month of July Time TBA. Would you like to help? Volunteers will have food, soft drinks provided for them & have access to the entire symposium of Art, Talent, Essays & other shows! To be considered as a judge or to volunteer for any other position please email grace@dancingwithgrace.com

Workshop Itinerary: 3:00 - 3:50 P.M. - Mens Cross Body Lead Technique/Fundamentals & how to make it look stylish. • 7-8 p.m. Beginner Salsa I: Learn important foundational salsa basics! Practice makes perfect. Don’t be afraid to take this class over and over again until you are comfortable and you can then move into the 8-9 pm beginner lesson.
• 7-8 p.m. A Taste of Performance Month: This is an introduction to choreography and performance. You will learn little chunks of dance movement that may/may not be in Grace & Hugo's next performance class. Take this month of lessons and see if you want to jump into our Performance Class that starts in June and lasts throughout December.
• 8-9 p.m. Salsa Beginner II-III: Iron out the LT/RT & do/remember beginner patterns. Work on posture, frame, & hand/finger technique too!
• 8-9 p.m. Intermediate/Advanced Combination Class: Take our combination class and also learn this month what it feels like to dance in a club with Grace's Simulation Series. Intermediate/Advance students only

FYI: You must know a cross body lead with a turn and how to lead it to take this class. Intermediate/Advance students only.

Dress Code:
Casual, comfortable sweats or yoga pants, (preferably) salsa practice shoes (for turns and spins on a wooden dance floor). If you don't have salsa shoes, you can wear your evening dance shoes. Tennis shoes will inhibit your spins and may ruin your knees over time. You can go to the DWG Store to see if you find something you like or go online and check out shoes like Supadance or International. They can get pricey but make a world of difference when you dance.

Rueda Fever:
What is Rueda? A rueda is a dance where all couples are in a circle and do a step similar to Salsa but not necesarily the same. They do, however, dance to salsa music and it is the most entertaining dance to watch. Although we do not teach it, there are very capable teachers in Baltimore, DC and VA! Read below!

6. Good Deed of the Month: Help for adults with Mental Illnesses

The mission of Arundel Lodge, Inc. is to empower adults with Mental Illnesses to live in the community, use resources effectively, socialize, work, maintain wellness, and further their education. The ultimate goal is to assist consumers to live as independently as possible, on equal terms with their neighbors. Feel free to visit www.arundellodge.org to donate your funds or time!

Their members range from the ages of 18-80 yrs old; they have diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, and mild retardation. They also have incorporated a deaf program as well. Mainly they aid and assist members to be as functional as possible with in our society with in their own unique limits and capabilities. They are all truly amazing and special souls. They tend to have mundane schedules and we are trying to recreate more exciting and educational experiences for them on a daily basis through teachings, guest speakers and eclectic activities.
