Letter To Our Students

Festival of Trees

Dear Students,

As you all have heard I (Grace Badillo) was one of the Co-Chairs for the Kennedy Krieger event just held at the Timonium State Fair Grounds called The Festival of Trees to benefit the disabled children of Kennedy Krieger. Kennedy Krieger is an internationally recognized center for research, treatment, education & training focused on problems that affect a child's developing brain including but not limited to autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, spina bifida, mental retardation and spinal cord injury.

For those of you who do not know, we use our dance company to do many charitable events every year for local charities and also raise money for children in need internationally. In our prior monthly newsletters, we asked students to volunteer for this event to help teach, perform, and/or assist at our booth to help raise funds with our little "Happy Feet Christmas Trees" that students & instructors made at our house a few weeks back. The proceeds are going to a special family in need that we personally know; they live in the Dominican Republic. If you have been to DR and off the resort, you understand the poverty that can sometimes overtake an island if a hurricane hits or if there are no jobs available. Our American dollar goes far there. I knew that those who were in town and able to volunteer were going to be special people and this year our expectations were exceeded. During the event I was moved to tears several times telling the story of this special family who really just needs a "leg up" to help provide for their little girl's basic needs. Every single person who volunteered and sold those trees to the people that approached our booth became my heros. Every person there made a great difference and every dollar donated will help make a great difference to this family.

Volunteers

There was one person Hugo and I wanted to give special recognition to and his name is Justin "The Cup Bearer". Like a superhero, he came out and approached hundreds of people, not even waiting for them to come to the booth! He wore his heart on his sleeve and worked so hard for every single penny he was given from our "Angel" donators. I figured that he single-handedly raised over $320 of the money we collected and he also fasted and gave his lunch money for the family. There were other special students who immediately gave $5, $10, $20 & $100 donations once they heard what we were doing. Today, we say thank you to every person who helped make the Festival of Trees a success, from the staff to the volunteers, each of you are our heroes.

Neveling Maldonado-Montaño

We were able to raise $710.00 from our little funny "Happy Feet Christmas Trees" and this will definitely make a difference in the lives of the Maldonado-Montaño Family. We will send them $400 for Christmas and $100 each month thereafter until the money runs out. We will be selling the "Happy Feet Christmas Trees" on Tuesday, December 5th at the Promenade if you want to volunteer your time or donate some money. It will be very appreciated as when the weather is bad in their part of the world they do not have work.

Girl from Wheelchair Dances

There was a moment that I will never forget, though, where J.K. took one of the little girls out of her wheel chair and held her up and danced with her slowly. He didn't see me cry but it made us happy that we were there to make her smile. I loved it when I danced with the cute young men in their wheelchairs; their smiles were priceless and I know that they left remembering that feeling of joy.

So we say to you this holiday season, when you are sad and blue don't turn within and feel "without"; turn out and help someone less fortunate and you will feel like the richest person on earth and your "problems" won't seem so big anymore.

Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. Thank you to our students who make us proud to be in your life and Thank You To God Almighty for giving us the strength and courage to stand out and make a difference.

Sincerely,

Grace, Hugo & The Dancing With Grace Productions Team

Merry Christmas!

Grace and Hugo would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for making our entire year such a success.

For those of you who are offended by my use of "Christmas" in my holiday goodwill, TOO BAD! Christ is the reason for the season! :)

Merry CHRISTmas,

Grace and Hugo Badillo, Partners in Christ for Life!

Grace's Salsa Concepts

Grace Salsa Concept

Tip #1: Deodorant-less? Are you one of the many who hate deodorant? Do you use that clear stone or some form of natural deodorant and go dancing? Hugo and I sure do understand wanting to put less metal on your bodies, especially directly on the lymph nodes, but we have a tip that might help you suddenly get more men/women asking you to dance more than once. Use an antiperspirant ONLY when you go dancing; afterwards wash it completely off. During your days off, at work or even at home use the organic/natural deodorants because during this time you usually sweat less. If your job is labor-intensive then you are stuck using deodorants that are full of metals but you can periodically detoxify your body twice a year to get rid of the metals. Hugo and I do this on a regular basis. I hear lots of complaints about men and women who smell and I was asked to write this one two weeks ago so be warned: The stinky-stankiness won't attract any new faces any time soon.

Tip #2: Women, in this day and age the average man still asks the woman to dance which I find quite nice, but from time to time ask the gentlemen to dance too. Especially ask him to dance if you turned him down in the past when your feet hurt, you were sweaty or just plain said no cause you didn't like the song! He will certainly appreciate the gesture and probably ask you to dance again in the future.

7.  Physical Therapy for Dancers

ALL Therapy is a Physical Therapy Practice specializing in the care of dancers, athletes and general orthopedic populations.

Recently I (Grace) had the opportunity to hear a great lecture by Dr. Lord on physical therapy for dancers. I believe she is very qualified to help any dancer with their particular needs and hope that if you find yourself with an annoying muscle problem or other orthapedic problem you will seek the attention of a good physical therapist that not only understands the body but the DANCER!

Dr. Aisha L. Lord is the founder and owner of ALL Therapy and a lifelong dancer. Dr. Lord has incorporated dance and fitness into every aspect of her life. She has an extensive history in dance originating at the age of 3. Dr. Lord trained at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts in New York City, New York. Dr. Lord co-founded a dance company at the University of Delaware, where she later received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science. Afterwards, Dr. Lord performed nationally and internationally with a critically acclaimed dance company, while simultaneously receiving her Master of Science and Doctorate degrees in Physical Therapy from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.

As a Physical Therapist, Dr. Lord currently works in the areas of inpatient & outpatient rehabilitation, and home care. With establishment of the ALL Therapy Private Practice Clinic in Washington DC in 2006, Dr. Lord has the opportunity to intertwine her education and experience in physical therapy rehabilitation with her love for dancing, fitness and helping others. Dr. Lord presents seminars and workshops to Dance & Athletic populations on the subjects of Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation.

We train our instructors in dance and humility. If you have Tuesday and at least one Friday or Saturday evening free every week and are a person of integrity who knows how to keep their word and be on time or die trying then please schedule a private audition with Grace Badillo. We look forward to meeting with YOU! Serious inquires only.

Students who have the dream of becoming instructors should only apply after being trained for 2+ years. If you have rhythm and move fluently you can also take private classes for 1 year and depending on your dedication and level of dance you may be the perfect person for our team. We might even consider you for an assistant instructor position. If you are interested, please contact Grace Badillo.

DWG is looking for a dynamic person with serious organizational skills that can help Grace keep the business running smoothly. This person must have exceptional people skills and be very well versed in Outlook, Word, Excel, and computers in general. This person would be the Instructor Manager and keep their schedules straight along with prepping contracts for large activities, helping out with booth preparations at festivals, taking calls, mailing on-line video sales, class sign-ins and be willing to donate some of their time to charitable events throughout the year. Grace is looking for a "long-timer", someone who can stay with us for more than a year and grow with the company. This position is part-time and hours are really flexible as you can work from home, but must have your own personal computer and be able to type more than 60 words per minute.
