November 2007 Newsletter

Message to Our Students

Give Thanks.

How many times have you taken the opportunity to thank someone that really serves you on a regular basis? Who cuts your hair? What about the cashier you see at the gas station every week? How about that special someone that helps you at work or school, or one of your professors or even your doctor? Each one of these people serves you on a regular basis. Instead of giving them a glazed over “thank you” while you are on the phone or texting, try giving them a card or maybe an extra big tip this season. So many people tend to see the negative things in their life but we challenge you to notice those around you who have been placed in your life for such a time as this. Appreciate them and let them know that they are good at what they do; it might just make there day, week or even their year. Remember that although you have a lot, some people have so much less.

Especially remember this month to give thanks to your creator; the one who breathed life into your lungs and lets you enjoy dance, your life and hey, even this newsletter! Thank you GOD!

Be thankful. Be grateful. Be humble. Be a better version of yourself today and always!

Sincerely,
Grace, Hugo & The DWG Team

Grace's Salsa Tips

Grace Salsa Concept

Tip #1: Warm up prior to starting your dance lesson or dancing in general. To warm up quickly rise up on your tippy-toes and back down onto your heels 20 times. You can also stand straight and grab your ankle behind you and stretch out your quadriceps muscle in less than 1 minute. One of my favorites is to do a couple of side bends to get the blood flowing. You will notice that you will respond to your partner easily because you have your juices flowing!

Tip #2:Kick-Steps - whatever dance you're doing, try not to kick with your toes up unless your doing the “cigarette squash” shine. This is good if you're doing Country Western dancing, but for Salsa you should try to point your toes to the outside. It looks much better during dance at all levels.

Promendade on Tuesdays

All Classes at the Promenade are $10 Each Unless Otherwise Stated

November/December 2007 Schedule

  • 7-8 p.m. Beginner Salsa: Learn important foundational salsa basics! Practice makes perfect. Don't be afraid to take this class over and over again until you are comfortable and you can then move into the 8-9 pm Salsa Improvers Class!
  • 7-8 p.m. Performance Class: Learn a DWG Intermediate-Advanced Salsa choreography. This class will continue through December 2007. You are not required to take all the classes but if you want to learn it and get good take as many as you can! Students will also get the opportunity to perform this at one of DWG's Venues for charity! Have fun and do a good deed for others! $10 each
  • 8-9 p.m. Salsa Improvers: Beginner-Int Patterns. Even if you are an intermediate-advanced dancer this class can help you with beginner-intermediate patterns that you may not know. Not all patterns have to be intense, long or complicated. Sometimes the uncomplicated patterns are the most fun.
  • 8-9 p.m. Combination Class: Feel like moving? Take our combination class that will help you understand the secrets to keeping your partner close during your dance together. FYI: You must know a cross body lead with a turn and how to lead it to take this class. Intermediate/Advance Students Only.

Dress Code:
Casual, comfortable sweats or yoga pants, (preferably) salsa practice shoes (for turns and spins on a wooden dance floor). If you don't have salsa shoes, you can wear your evening dance shoes. Tennis shoes will inhibit your spins and may ruin your knees over time. You can go to the DWG Store to see if you find something you like or go online and check out shoes like Supadance or International. They can get pricy but make a world of difference when you dance.

Check out Grace's Shoe Clues Chapter in her Salsa With Grace Instructional Video so she can explain why you need good dance shoes, which pair you should buy first and how to take care of them! Purchase our Salsa Videos.

Directions:
Promenade Dance Sport Facility is located at 2605 Lord Baltimore Drive.  For directions and more information click here.

4.  Things to do & Salsa Field Trip With Grace and/or DWG Team

Field Trips

DWG Field Trips

Check it out! DWG is launching the first ever "DWG Field Trip Advisor" to update you with the latest and greatest excursions around town and out of town. While the Current Newsletter and Club Reviews give you the big picture, you'll want to visit this page regularly to check out the upcoming DWG excursions. Right here is where we will tell you how to find out where Grace and the DWG team are going and what we are doing. Since we do not wish to fill up your inboxes with unwanted messages, the only way to receive Field Trip updates is to sign up here. Depending on the destination, we may end up at a casino, a Broadway musical, dance competitions, a concert, the hottest night clubs or even the beach. Depending on the destination, we may end up in Atlantic City, NY to a broadway musical, competitions, a concert, the hottest night clubs or even the beach. Who knows!? Spread the word and let's get this thing rockin'! Click here to see the current events, proposed events, and past events.

Upcoming Field Trips

We realize this is a very difficult time of year to do field trips due to the holidays and the money spent during this time. There are so many groups promoting events here, there and everywhere that it seems that salseros or people trying to make money off of salsa lovers expect us to be able to afford lessons, events, concerts and parties almost every single night of the week. For this reason we are not having an upcoming field trip in November and December. Try not to waste money in these next two months and if you do make certain that you are giving just as much to those in need around you. Thank you so much for spending time with us! We will announce what we are doing for New Years so that you can spend time with us dancing salsa socially! Be on the look out for the announcement.

Orphans of Puerto Rico

Grace and Hugo’s Pick for doing a good deed this month goes to our DWG Field Trip to Puerto Rico to Help the orphans there that are struggling. Although Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, they have not integrated the Foster Care System there and have 22 orphanages in need of serious help. Grace will be going to Puerto Rico, assessing the need and purchasing everything in our power to help the children. Do you feel like doing a good deed? Donate $ or gift cards from Sams Club or Sears as these stores are located there and Grace can shop for the children’s school clothes, get bedding etc for the children. We thank you for your consideration and will be taking photos of the children we help so you can see them soon! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
