We Dance In America
"With Firm Reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence "

Message to Our Students

Dear All,

Happy New Year & Happy Valentines Day!

Is it 2011 already? I know we aren't the only ones asking this question! Where does time go? It flies by quickly when you dance! We would like to wish you the most blessed year of your life. May you find that through every trial, there is a lesson learned and that with every achievement, you are grateful to God above.

Please check out the newsletter and read about all the great things we are doing this month; my special project this month is Mission Of Love In February. If you are lonely and don't have a Valetine, let Christian be your Valetine.

If you have one, share that love and joy with Christian and us at Mission of Love; the coolest salsa social ever! We will raise money for a van to help his family transport this 3 year old boy in his wheel chair to his doctor's appointment and to increase his quality of life! Let your dance hobby matter; use dance for good and spend time with Dancing With Grace today!

God Bless You All! & Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Grace and Hugo Badillo

Grace’s Salsa Tips

Grace's Salsa Tips

Tip #1: Smile Guys: I danced with a really good dancer recently that had such a stone cold dead face that I thought I was dancing with a corpse. I tried to smile and show him I was enjoying myself but the more I did, the more mean he looked. I started laughing because it was down-right hilarious. I think dance is supposed to be fun; he seemed so blah. Maybe his face muscles don't work, who knows, but guys, let the girl know you are having a good time by smiling, if even only once!

Tip #2: Buy Her Water: If she says no to a dance, she may just mean, not now! I saw a girl dancing to a 7 minute song and one second after stopping another guy asked her to dance without any concern that she looked out of breath or sweaty. This is just inconsiderate. Try buying someone you want to dance with water and hand it to her. Afterwards, say with a smile," you look like you could use a water, maybe we can dance later." Even if she refuses the water, she will always know you are a gentleman and were kind enough to consider her needs.

AJA Wiregrass Rocks in Wesley Chapel

For those of you who don't know the new AJA Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel at the Shops at Wiregrass Mall has become thee spot to be for social dancers that don't like cliques or the dance scene wroght with show offs. This isn't a blah blah blah claim made by the house dance instructor but a gleeful admission of honest truth! People of all ages and cultures go to AJA. It is a scene where you will find 60 year olds dancing with 30 year olds, families coming together to celebrate a special occasion and a place for beginners and intermediate social dancers to get their "dance legs" working for the first time. For you lover's of food, they have a truly NY style Pizza that really does taste like the dough and cheese of NY Pizza and I lived in Brooklyn, NY so I certainly love it! We are proud of the location's food, gorgeous hardwood floor and kind patrons. No matter where you are from its actually worth the drive. This location is clean and has plenty of free parking. We thank Aja for their incrediblly kind staff and hard work! We teach every Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm; 28211 Paseo Drive, Wesley Chapel Florida. Check out our schedule below.

BOOK COVER CONTEST:  CALLING ALL ARTISTS!

Are you an artist?  Do you like to draw and create?  We are looking for an incredible book cover to be used for Grace’s book called “Is Dancing A Sin?” to be published in 2011.  This book will delve deep into what God’s word says about the subject of dance and dancing, and what the church, families, Hollywood & dance instructors are doing in dance and to dance today.  We are in search of a brilliant artist to help us capture Grace’s ideas written below.  The winner’s cover will “grace” the front of this book to be sold all over the world!  If you want to know more about the book please read “Is Dance A Sin?” article in my booklet found on this newsletter. We recommend you actually read it in its eirety to be inspired.

The cover should incorporate all these types of dance:

  • Salsa dance:  our logo can be used if you like.
  • Ballroom dance:  any kind of partner pose.
  • Pole dance: a dancer on a pole.
  • Ballet dance:  ballerina with a partner.
  • Tango or Flamenco dance:  w/or without a partner
  • African dance: folkloric dancers typically wear a long white draped skirt and head wrap.
  • Wheel Chair dance:  if you have never seen it-prepare to cry; youtube it; it’s amazing.
  • Hip Hop dance:  baggy pants, Solo or Team.
  • Team dance:  jazz dance team w/hats of some kind.

The cover should have some of the art work go to the back and incorporate the authors photograph on the back, however best fits the art work.  Feel free to put art around the photo and some of the art can even be cut off by the author photograph.  Don’t be afraid to incorporate an image into the title.  I am interested in the idea of using the pole in the pole dancing picture as part of the word SIN; use your imagination.  All images should look like shadows.  Basically all images are silhouettes of poses in whatever color inspires you.
Color Palette:  I like many colors except pink.  Check out the photos in my photo gallery to see what colors I have used at events or in my wardrobe.

Submissions:
Submissions should be turned in February 11th, 2011.  All submissions should be sent to MYBOOKCOVER@DANCINGWITHGRACE.COM in a JPG format or PDF for submission and

Dance News: Grace Wins The Women of Salsa Award in Washington DC

Grace was given the Women of Salsa Award on August 4, 2010 in Washington, DC by the Famous Eileen Torres, Salsa Historian & Speaker.

What is The Tribute To Women of Salsa Event?

The Eighth Annual Tribute to Women in Salsa takes place yearly at Zanzibar on the Waterfront, 700 Water St SW, Washington, DC. Each year this special event attracts an audience that gathers to recognize a special woman that has made enduring contributions to the salsa community. This year’s honoree is Grace Badillo-dance instructor, promoter and president of Dancing With Grace Productions. Grace has taught thousands of students to dance, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity through dance, has produced special events and been instrumental in developing and nurturing a vibrant salsa community in the mid-Atlantic and now beginning again in Tampa, Florida. She has trained many salsa instructors to teach & creates a nurturing atmosphere for all cultures, ages, shapes and sizes in the dance world. There are no Cliques in Grace's World.

Hundreds of people came out to honor Grace & immediately following the recognition ceremony was the highly anticipated all female dance revue with incredible performances by local women’s dance teams in full theatrical costuming. Nancy Alonso of WPFW 89.3 FM provided music for the audience’s dancing pleasure.

Tribute to Women in Salsa was created in by Eileen Torres a Washington, DC promoter, speaker and salsa/mambo historian to honor special women for their significant contributions to the Latin dance world. In addition, she holds other tributes to Men in Salsa, Salsa Choreographers, & Salsa DJs.

Have you ever wondered if dance is a sin? Many of us have been taught about God (the creator of Heaven & Earth). What does He say about Dance? To read Grace's article, "Is Dancing A Sin" click here:

Grace would love to know your opinion. Email her at grace@dancingwithgrace.com

Check out the last email I received about this article:

Dear Grace,

My name is J and I have really been struggling with this issue of dance as a sin lately. I absolutely LOVE to dance and find it as a great joy. However at social dances people have made it so sinful and i know it is sinful. I was really frustrated with the fact that if dancing was a sin i would be missing out on something i really love. So then i did what any typical teenager would do and i used google, i googled "dancing at parties is a sin" and your page came up. I LOVED the fact that you backed up everything with the Bible because I really enjoy reading the Bible and to know that everything is truth really helps me to relate. So anyways I just really want to thank you because you have helped me so much and God's light has shown through you! I can dance and glorify God and it is not a sin, unless I lustfully make it one. Having respect for myself will pay off in the long run and others will respect me! THANK YOU SO MUCH, you have truly inspired me

Through Christ,
J

Hi Grace-

I loved your article on dancing.   I grew up being told it was a sin…so I was prohibited from dancing.   So guess what I wanted to do most of my life?  Yep!

BTW…Is there a sinful form of dancing?…of course.   And there is a sinful form of eating, driving cars, watching TV, recreating etc.

I loved your take on the issue.   Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned and experienced.

As a Baptist Minister, and Christian radio Talk show host I now enjoy dancing with my wife…and I DON’T CARE anymore what the legalists say.

Neil
PS  I’m not much of a dancer…but it’s fun, and I hate the fact that the enemy tried to steal it from God’s people.  Well, I am committed to taking it back!

 8.  Testimonials of Dancing With Grace Instruction:

Hi Grace,

I wanted to let you know that I was dancing last night and I had three people notice how "good I have gotten" recently. Its all coming together thanks to you and Roberto. RK

Grace, Your outlook on dance and philosophy behind your teaching techniques is just what Tampa needed. Finally, someone who isnt afraid to love God, serve God and teach dance at the same time. BV

Master of Ceremonies: We were luck to find such an expert as yourself who was kind enough to donate your services to help us raise money. VS

Last night, I was about to give up on dance altogether and then I ran into you at AJA. After I told you that my x-wife left me to have a short-lived affair with our dance instructor, you took me in and were so kind. Thank you for your support and for helping me realize it wasnt salsa that did me wrong but the morals of two people that dont know how sacred the covenant of marraige is. It will take me time, but I will try to forgive them like you said, "How can you expect God to forgive you, if you arent willing to forgive others?" It took a lot to talk to me the way you did; not everyone has that kind of courage. Thank you Grace, and Merry Christmas to you and your family. OSm
