We Need Your Help!

As you all know the DWG Family does lots of volunteer service teaching dance to children, seniors, & the less fortunate.  This year Grace has been invited to be on the committee that plans the Festival of Trees by The Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Kennedy Krieger is an internationally recognized center for research, treatment, education & training focused on problems that affect a child's developing brain including but not limited to autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, spina bifida, mental retardation and spinal cord injury.

It is a great honor for our team to be involved in helping raise money to provide care for the needy in America and our team is up to the challenge of spending an entire weekend Nov 24-26, 2007 doing merengue and salsa lessons for children and adults, organizing dance performances, getting donations, volunteers involved and more.

As all of you know DWG happens to have the sweetest students in the universe and that is why we are asking for your help.  Would you like Free Tickets?

We need:

  • Gingerbread House Donations which will go on sale that weekend.
  • Decorated Wreaths (artificial or dried) which will also go on sale that weekend.
  • Donations for the silent auction which can be gift certificates, crafts, anything valuable you believe will get bids.
  • Couples to Volunteer a Dance Performance of any kind.
  • Student Volunteers to help in the children's classes on Fri/Sat in the a.m.
  • Student Volunteers to help man the DWG Booth promoting the classes for entertainment during the weekend.
  • Financial donation of any size.

All the proceeds will go towards providing the costly & necessary physical therapy & training for these children.  Let this be your good deed for 2006!  If you donate anything listed above you will receive 10 free tickets to the Festival of Trees for your Family worth $100.

Please contact Grace@dancingwithgrace.com if there is anything you can do to help this wonderful and noble cause.  Contact your friends to see if they can donate too & make this your new family tradition as the festival of trees is one of the most wonderful holiday experiences you could ever attend.  Just imagine the Timonium State Fairgrounds decorated with hundreds of Christmas Trees, Christmas Booths, bands, entertainment & more!  If Santa Had a Theme Park, This would be it!

Grace's Salsa Concepts

Grace Salsa Concept

Tip #1: To Everyone: This is a sensitive subject but I am famous for saying what ever is on my mind so here goes.  This is to all you SWEATY, DRIPPING, SOMETIMES STINKY, NEED ANOTHER SHIRT & A SHOWER dancers.  There is something completely disgusting about dancing with someone who is dripping wet.  If I am the least bit moist I am apologizing immediately & ready to run to the bathroom to towel down!  Dancers, if you know you sweat then bring a TOWEL and an EXTRA SHIRT  or TWO!  Some of the towels you wipe yourself with are drenched by 11 p.m. so bring 3! You will be surprised how many more people will dance with you if you just dry up a little.  Guys, there are at least 15 girls a month complaining about sweaty, drenched shirts on men so don't  kill the messenger!  :)

Tip #2:  Spinning the girls.  Dear Guys, when you decide to spin a lady a double turn please remember that you prep on 3 and she should have completed the first turn of the double turn and be facing you on beat 6 and the second turn she should be facing you on beat 7.  Just because you know how to lead a double or quadruple doesn't mean she will be able to do it.  Each partner is different.  First try a double and if she cant do it with "your lead" but you see she can with others its time for a private class on leading spins. Recently I was lead a quadruple and it was led so slow and so wide that my ankles hurt afterwards.  Us ladies can only do what we are lead to the timing its led so give us a break guys & train yourself before doing multiple spins on the ladies.  See heading #6 for private class information.

Hi Grace!

This is K.C., student of your Tuesday 7-9pm salsa class. I LOVE THE WEBSITE AND NEWSLETTER. I also wanted to say you and Hugo have really exposed me to a beautiful experience of salsa/latin dance. I look forward to Tuesdays, being free and graceful, dancing with Niss, Luis, and Ann.  I have an extremely love and respect for dance. 'DANCING WITH GRACE' has truly broaden my love even more. After your workshop on Saturday, Oct.7th,  you sat down with me and another student. You allowed me to see your humanitarian side that really impressed me with your future plans of opening up an orphanage. You touched my life! I've been thinking of ways to help contribute, starting with my prayers to  God for him to remember all of those lost children, when nasty ignorant humans forget them. You will be blessed for your heartfelt ideas and future goals of loving these children. Thank you so much for allowing me to experience your passion of dance and love for people/children.

I'll see you on Tuesday nights...I'll be the one DANCING WITH GRACE :)

Keisha

Dear Keisha,
Thank you for your prayers and for being part of something bigger than dance!

Sincerely,

Grace and Hugo

Importance of Listening to the Music

Salsa Music

If you want to be a great salsa dancer one of the things you need to do is develop an ear for the music. By listening and understanding the music you will be able to dance to it better. Listen to it, learn to hear the changes in the music from verse to chorus to breaks in the music and back to the verse.

Suggestions for when you can listen to it would be:

  • Getting ready to come to class Tuesday, Friday or Saturday nights.
  • While you make dinner, a real dinner, not McDonalds okay!
  • While Relaxing: What is that you ask? Whether its while you have a spot of tea or a small glass of wine sit back and relax for once!
  • Getting ready in the morning! Add some salsa to your mornings and put some pep in your step. Be careful and don't dance in the shower okay!
  • In the car while you are driving. Try not taking a cell phone, take a minute, and enjoy the moment and the music. You deserve it.
