“Embracing the Fierce Urgency of Now”

Message to Our Students

Dear All,

Hi everyone! We sure do miss those of you who are in Baltimore. To our new students in Tampa; thank you for letting us into your lives!

I am on my way to Baltimore to teach privates and group lessons on October 23rd-Nov2nd. Part of this trip (4 days) will be dedicated to the Philadelphia Salsa Fest. They have a line up that is absolutely fabulous! I can’t wait to go and hope to see some of you there.

On October 26 (Monday) I will be teaching group lessons at the Promenade in Baltimore! Can’t wait for that either. The studios in Tampa/Clearwater are much smaller than the Promenade; you are all very lucky to have The Promenade so near by!

Salsa Lessons have continued with Niss Albaig on Tuesdays at The Promenade Dance Sport Facility. Check out www.salsa-now.net. None of you have to stop your Tuesday lessons at The Promenade!

Don’t forget that if you want to visit Tampa let us know! So far we have had over 10 students come to visit and even look for apartments to move! No one seems to like very cold winters. I actually heard on the news that this year will be the coldest winter the northeast has had in 15 years! I guess we moved at the right time. Thank you Lord!

PS. If you ever learned anything from us we want you to remember this... that if you do salsa, do it for a reason and help anyone you can in the process. Show random acts of kindness, patience and gentleness to beginners and never let pride get in the way of who you were truly meant to be as a dancer. We are so proud of you....God Bless each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

Grace and Hugo Badillo

Grace’s Salsa Tips

Grace's Salsa Tips

Tip #1: Feel like you won’t fit in because you are too short, too tall, too overweight, too whatever? Everyone feels uneasy when they begin dance lessons. You are not alone. We are sensitive to the emotional and mental strife a new and not so new student can go through. If a dance instructor you have had before has not made you feel "part" of the lesson then they are not the right teacher for you. Dance classes shouldn’t make you feel worse about yourself but better! Keep searching for the right instructor and you will find them!

Tip#2: Too Sexy is too much! Ladies, avoid the idea of dancing with sexual intent or to make a display out of yourself in a bad way. Men who are attracted to this may not be the kind of men you want to date or even dance with. Perverts are not usually marraige material!

Scoop of the Month:

We (Grace and Hugo) have been living in Clearwater while our new home was being built and as we continue with our transition from Baltimore to the Tampa area. It has not been as smooth as we expected; lots of boxes, paperwork and inspections. We are very happy to have been able to sell our house in Baltimore and finally after a lot of headaches finally closing on our new home on September 30th. Because of this transition, the release of our monthly newsletters have been impacted. We appreciate your patience during these months as we continue transitioning. Moving isn’t as easy as we remembered! We will be moving in to our new home during the next few months since I (Grace) am still on tour. Here is a picture of our new home. Thank You God For Our New Home!

Workshop #3 - Ladies Arm Styling, All Levels (9:00 - 9:55 pm): Arm styling can add Grace and elegance to your dancing. Quit getting your arm stuck or looking like a wind mill while dancing. Grace will help bring confidence to this area of your dancing! Ladies Only.

Dress Code:
Casual, comfortable sweats or yoga pants, (preferably) salsa practice shoes (for turns and spins on a wooden dance floor). If you don't have salsa shoes, you can wear your evening dance shoes. Tennis shoes will inhibit your spins and may ruin your knees over time. You can go to the DWG Store to see if you find something you like or go online and check out shoes like Supadance or International. They can get pricey but make a world of difference when you dance.

Check out Grace's Shoe Clues Chapter in her Salsa With Grace Instructional Video so she can explain why you need good dance shoes, which pair you should buy first and how to take care of them! Purchase our Salsa Videos.

 6. Is Dancing A Sin?

Have you ever wondered if dance is a sin? Many of us have been taught about God (the creator of Heaven & Earth). What does He say about Dance? To read Grace's article, "Is Dancing A Sin" click here:

Grace would love to know your opinion. Email her at grace@dancingwithgrace.com

Check out the last email I received about this article:

Hi Grace-

I loved your article on dancing.   I grew up being told it was a sin…so I was prohibited from dancing.   So guess what I wanted to do most of my life?  Yep!

BTW…Is there a sinful form of dancing?…of course.   And there is a sinful form of eating, driving cars, watching TV, recreating, etc.

I loved your take on the issue.   Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned and experienced.

As a Baptist Minister, and Christian radio Talk show host I now enjoy dancing with my wife…and I DON’T CARE anymore what the legalists say.

Neil
PS  I’m not much of a dancer…but it’s fun, and I hate the fact that the enemy tried to steal it from God’s people.  Well, I am committed to taking it back!
