Message to Our Students:

Merry Christmas & Happy Birthday Jesus!

Dear All

I cannot believe it is December already! This year has gone by faster than any and it's all because we enjoyed it with you all. We pray that you have a fantastic holiday and Merry Christmas. This year more than any we are grateful for God's blessings upon us. Although these times have been tough on absolutely everyone financially we have survived it and kept afloat & thank you for your support. You help add joy and laughter to our lives through dance and we couldn't express to you enough what you mean to us.

It is our sincere hope that your new year be one of growth, sincerity, joy & giving and while you are experiencing this you keep dancing through it all because if we have learned one thing in life it's:

If you can dance through any circumstance or sorrow, you will find your joy in all your tomorrows!

Make Your Wedding Dance a Romantic Salsa

Being part of our student's happiness is one of the reasons we love our job! If you are planning to get married or know someone that will be getting married soon, why not make your wedding dance a romantic salsa?

DWG offers private lesson packages that can be used for the most romantic dance of your life!

Private Lessons

Should I Do Private Lessons?

Grace's private lessons focus 50% of what you want/your goals and 50% of what you need. Private dance lessons are available on a very limited basis due to high demand.

Grace typically works with dancers who truly want to move forward from one level to the next, or with a dancer who needs work on something specific, whether it be remembering patterns or styling of some sort. Choreography private lessons are available as well to help you work out the kinks of your choreography. Since Grace has judged for several competitions including the World Salsa Championship Preliminary Rounds she is well versed on what judges are looking for in competitions.

She is opening her private lesson schedule for dancers that seek technical drilling, spinning technique, styling, arm work footwork, and choreography. Typically Grace's private classes happen in the early afternoon to evening 3 days a week. To get on her schedule please email her soon. Sometimes she can be booked 1-2 months in advance due to all of the corporate and evening events already scheduled. She wants you to get on her schedule as soon as possible! Email her at grace@dancingwithgrace.com. If she doesn't respond within 24-48 hours then she didn't receive the email! Please Send it again :0) Good luck on your dancing!

December 3, 10, 11, 17, 18, 19, 26th.

If you want her on other dates just email her and she will check her availability.

DWG's hopes for students to not just learn to dance but to learn to love dance so much that they want to help others with it! DWG works very hard and tries to do at least 1-2 charity events per month to help raise $ for a good cause or to entertain others that wouldn't normally get to dance. Helping any of the charities we support by attending is truly doing Salsa For A Reason other than just for "our own gratification". Let's help others whenever we see the opportunity and God, yes God, will certainly reward you for it!

This month Grace is working on Dance For the Cure's 2009 event to raise funds for Esophageal Cancer, the disease her father & uncle died from. She is also planning December 21, 2009 event for the homeless YWCA shelter located at 1711 McCulloh Street, Baltimore, Md 21217.

Grace’s Salsa Tips

Grace's Salsa Tips

Tip #1: Want to buy a christmas gift for a salsero? Try a T-shirt or Music CD to be safe. If they don't have instructional DVDs try ours in English or Spanish. Another good set of DVDs out there is by Edie the Salsa Freak. You could also try purchasing a gift certificate from us or a location that hosts a salsa evening!

Tip#2: Want to lose weight? Just dance every other song on a Saturday night and you will be doing over 20 miles in one evening of going out! It sure does make a difference!

YOU SMELL SO WELL!
OR DO YOU?

You Smell

We all smell.. some good.. some bad.. some really funkylicious. It's okay, you aren't alone. Sometimes the problem is that people who are already sweating put on deodorant again, on top of the last batch they used. This can amplify the deodorant smell and make you smell worse! Be careful! Some of us don't use deodorant and its a cultural thing. Well, we love all cultures in America but can't stand to smell the funk that may come along with activities that cause you to perspire more than usual. Pretty please with sugar on top, can you use deodorant? Your future spouse and dance partner will really appreciate it and your teacher will too! ha ha.. Feel the funk-don't smell it!

CD of the Month

El Swing De Hoy Con El Sabor De Ayer

El Swing De Hoy Con
El Sabor De Ayer

Grupo Milenio

There's nothing like dancing and listening to good live music! Recently, I had the opportunityto go to a show and I must tell you that I was pleasantly surprised by Grupo Milenio. I enjoyed this group so much that I purchased two of their CDs on the spot! Grupo Milenio's latest CD release is entitled, "El swing de hoy... Con el sabor de ayer".

Grupo Milenio is one of those solid regional Salsa bands that has been around for a while playing in clubs and events in Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Trenton, & New York. With this latest CD release, we're definitely going to be hearing more about this group.

Grupo Milenio has opened for Kevin Ceballo, Ray Sepulveda, Johnny Ray, Jimmy Bosch, & Paquito Guzman just to name a few. They've also shared the stage with El Gran Combo, Andy Montanez, and La Dimesion Latina.

Grab a copy of this CD, sit back and enjoy Grupo Milenio's latest musical medley of Salsa, Salsaton, & Cha Cha Cha.

You can purchase this CD Baby at http://cdbaby.com/cd/grupomilenio.

See you next month, and as always - Love the clave & the congas!

Grace Shoots TV Episode For "Who's Wedding Is It Anyway?"

Sonia & Luis, a lovely couple that will be getting married very soon have been shooting a television show episode with "Who's Wedding Is It Anyway". A show that travels with the bride and groom through all the ups and downs of planning their wedding day. In this episode Grace plays their dance instructor. The producers wanted Luis to pretend to be a terrible dancer and not get it, although he is comfortable with dancing~ (ah... reality TV... isn't reality at all!). So we pretended to be worried about his ability to dance for effect. Be on the look out for this television show that usually plays on the Style or E network!

Couple Of The Month: Brian & Merle

The Slammer & The Photographer

Congratulations to our resident couple of the month Brian & Merle who not only are improving in their salsa but came to our last two salsa cruises! They are another great example of how marriage can last with a lot of love-n-salsa! Merle has been deemed the super photographer snapping great photos with her incredible camera and Brian has been deemed the slammer because when he gets happy he slams his fist on the dinner table and even to music once in a while! :0) They will receive free Buffet to our January 3, 2009 opening at The Ark & let them know we appreciate them and value their friendship!

Sincerely,
Grace and Hugo & the DWG Team

Be Not Afraid!

The next time you take a lesson we want you to take a deep breath, and allow yourself the opportunity to enjoy your lesson without fear. People have fears all the time and they vocalize them. Have you ever said this?

  • I have two left feet.
  • I have no rhythm.
  • Maybe I will be good in a few years.
  • I just can't get it.
  • I am frustrated.
  • I can dance but not like her/him.

All of these comments are a little negative. When we let this negativity creep in, it makes room for fear to grow. Fear of not being good, Fear of being off beat, Fear of hurting my partner, Fear of falling. Each of you are incredible people; made unique. There is no one like you and thus you look different from anyone else dancing. This is a good thing. Lets not be cookie cutter images of anyone... and give yourself permission to dance without negativity or fear!

Sincerely,
Grace and Hugo

Check out Grace's Shoe Clues Chapter in her Salsa With Grace Instructional Video so she can explain why you need good dance shoes, which pair you should buy first and how to take care of them! Purchase our Salsa Videos.

Ranazul Restaurant
Ranazul RestaurantThis is, without a doubt, one of the loveliest restaurants I have been to in years. In a word this location is impeccable: Impeccable Service, Impeccable Drinks, Impeccable Wine selections and Impeccable Food that is out of this world. The food is five stars for the price of a three star restaurant! The serving sizes are just right and eating here will take you on a delightful journey to taste buds you never knew existed. The ambiance is ultra sheik with sumptuously soft leather chairs, sensitive lighting, and a great sound system for all to enjoy. This location also boasts an incredible mini-gallery of art for the truly creative collector. After leaving this location guests are enchanted. It’s a rarity to find a restaurant that feels like home but with a royal appeal that leaves you wanting for one more dessert and one more bottle of wine "por favor"! I highly recommend that you take the time to reserve a table at this wonderful restaurant and become one of Ranazul ’ s guests at last; you will certainly go home completely satisfied and feeling like royalty! Rueda Fever:
What is Rueda? A rueda is a dance where all couples are in a circle and do a step similar to Salsa but not necessarily the same. They do, however, dance to salsa music and it is the most entertaining dance to watch. Although we do not teach it, there are very capable teachers in Baltimore, DC and VA! Read below!

Dance In Time Productions: Avalon Holiday Party! (It's the season to be jolly--and dance!)

Come to the Salsa party on Sunday Dec. 14 from 5 to 9 PM at Avalon Studio; 15 Mellor Ave; Catonsville, Maryland. It's the most wonderful time of the year....to dance! Come and dance, eat, chat, and have some of the Avalon Studio parties' usual, free-wheeling fun!!  DJ Vince Ford will spin the tunes, and we'll also have a dance sneaker shoe sale, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks!

The evening begins at 5:00 with three classes on the floor simultaneously - beginner Salsa Rueda, Advanced Salsa Rueda, and Rueda for Int/Adv. Salseros! The latter special class is a new concept---designed for getting experienced Salseros quickly up to speed on how to dance in a Rueda circle. So tell your friends who haven't yet tried out Rueda to come and check it out! We'll try to include a circle with the moves taught in this class in upcoming club Meetups, too! As this is a dance studio, those under 21 are welcome. And children from 12 and up can join in the beginner class if they wish. (Younger kids can watch, hang out, and soak up the Latin rhythms!)

Also, Jose Botta has promised to come and is bringing his new line of Dance Sneakers which, he says, are "very stylish, colorful, comfortable, as well as durable. The exclusive sole design enables them to be effective on both wood and laminated surfaces. Jose loves to dance and will join us at this party and be available to show his shoes to anyone interested! The party open dancing will run from about 6:00ish until about 9:00ish pm. Cover is only $10 which includes the lesson, snacks and dancing.

Cuban style Salsa ("Rueda") Class

This dance is taught Sundays from 5 PM to 7:00 PM at the Avalon Studio; 15 Mellor Ave; Catonsville, Maryland. This is also a great way to expand your repertoire of Salsa moves as the steps are all usable in one on one Salsa!

Takoma Park Party, Jan. 19
