Rocky Creek Dances
Residents Get The Royal Treatment

It was a royal day at Rocky Creek Retirement Village Sunday December 12, 2010. Residents of Rocky Creek were invited to a “Hate the Holidays?” party where a company called Dancing With Grace rallied up volunteers to get the party started. Among the volunteers were The Dancing With Grace Angels, a non-profit dance team and Troop 98 of The Girl Scouts led by Ramyner Mendoza.
For many of the people at Rocky Creek a night out can be a difficult thing to come by; this is why Dancing With Grace, a recently relocated dance company out of Baltimore, Maryland, takes the party to those who don’t normally get out into the social scene. As the winners of the National Presidential Volunteer Service Award, they have helped many with and through dance, using it for good across the east coast and internationally.
The day’s festivities began with dance music, snacks and the residents being photographed and welcomed by all of the volunteer dancers, performers and Girl Scouts. They were served refreshments and the dance lessons commenced. Many of the residents who couldn’t dance watched and still entered to win titles such as: Most Unique Outfit, Best Dressed, The Rico Suave Award, Most likely to be a Latina/Latino and didn’t know it Award, Who’s a Hottie? Award Best Male and Female dancer, Best Footwork, and a King and Queen of the event were even crowned  (All Hail Gil & Pauline)! Fun was had by all, as the residents danced the afternoon away. The girl scouts also decorated Christmas ornaments and gave one away to each person who attended. At the end of the event the Girl Scouts were awarded a badge entitled “Service From The Heart” because they served everyone with grace and kindness. Dancing With Grace teaches their students, both young and young at heart, that dance can be used for good and with modesty; there’s likely no hating the holidays when we reach out beyond ourselves & serve from the heart!
